Tim Mancino, OTR/L is a licensed Occupational Therapist & Consultant with 12 years rehabilitation experience working with adult and geriatric clients in various settings; such as acute/subacute care hospitals, outpatient and inpatient rehab, skilled nursing facilities in Florida and Ohio, home health care, as well as an independent consultant.
A 1996 graduate of the University of Florida, home of the "Gators", he has been active in advancing his profession and educating others in the area of Occupational Therapy. He has published articles in Advance for OT, The Business Journal, Suncoast Health Magazine, and numerous other print and online publications.

Q: What is the advantage of consulting with an independent Occupational Therapist?
A: Someone living at home who has not had a recent hospitalization or a significant change in their health status, will not qualify for home health under Medicare; as it requires a physician's order and documentation of a decline in health. And home health is limited in the amount of coverage it provides, especially if the person is not considered 'homebound'. However, there are situations where an Occupational Therapy consultation is still needed. This could be due to increased difficulty living independently at home, a need for alternative solutions for safety, information on resources and adaptations, client and family education and training, and due to the lack of adequate home health coverage. And this provides seniors with another resource to help them function 'independently' and 'safely' at home.
